Broken Heels is not a travel guide. It’s not a place to find out where to go, what to do, how much it will cost, and all the rest of it. I’m not here to sell you anything or give you advice.
Broken Heels is part of the Lacey & Leger blog network. It’s the travel side of things.
There are thousands of blogs that will tell you exactly what you need to know. There are hundreds of guidebooks sitting on shelves in bookshops, neatly packaged and full of answers.
This isn’t that.
This site is about what it was like to be me in that place, at that exact moment in time.
It’s about the experiences I had, the adversity, the joy, and the vibes.
It’s about a woman with ARFID, autism, anxiety, and food allergies, and a hundred reasons why she shouldn’t be out in the world travelling, discovering new places, doing exactly things, living life. And being out there anyway.
It’s about her husband, who is himself a bit neurospicy, who has had a stroke, and who is honestly the loveliest but most random man in the world, being dragged along for the ride.
It’s about her teenage son, who also has ARFID and autism, but is much less dramatic and chaotic than his mother, discovering the world and living a life that one day he might not be able to when neither of his parents are here.
This blog is about the atmosphere, the details and the things that don’t make it into itineraries.
It’s about the things only I notice when I’m actually there, living it, even if it’s just for a day.
Sometimes it feels glamorous, sometimes it feels chaotic and honestly not worth the hassle. Sometimes it’s funny in a way that only makes sense years later. And sometimes it’s just about existing in a place.
Like the time I went to Beauvais Airport, intending to travel to (and love) Paris, but it turned out that lying on the grass, having a picnic, waiting for a delayed flight at Beauvais Airport, was the best part of the day.
Broken Heels is, first and foremost, a memory bank. It’s published online, and anyone can read it, but that’s not really the point.
The point is that these moments don’t disappear when I do or get lost in the scroll.
They live here, on my blog, written down and remembered properly.
If you’re looking for tips, you might not find them. But you might find something useful in my experience.
And if you’re looking for a feeling, a glimpse into a moment… You’re in the right place.
